From 7 to 11 October 2026, Montmartre will once again celebrate its vineyards, food, music and neighbourhood spirit with the 93rd Fête des Vendanges de Montmartre. Spread across Paris’s 18th arrondissement, the five-day celebration attracts nearly 500,000 visitors each year and is one of the largest events organised by the City of Paris.
This year’s theme, “Le 18e donne le rythme” — “The 18th Leads the Beat”, puts music at the centre of the festivities, adding concerts, performances and participatory events to the festival’s longstanding celebration of wine and gastronomy. From vineyards to urban resistance Montmartre’s connection with wine stretches back centuries. Vines were cultivated around the Montmartre Abbey as early as the 12th century, but the original vineyards gradually disappeared as Paris expanded. By 1928, the last of them had been lost. The story took a different turn in the 1930s. In 1933, local artists and community figures replanted vines on the slopes at the corner of rue des Saules and rue Saint-Vincent, helping prevent the site from being transformed by a proposed real-estate development. The resulting Clos Montmartre has since become one of Paris’s most distinctive urban vineyards. Today, the vineyard is maintained by gardeners from the City of Paris. The grapes are vinified and bottled in the cellars of the 18th arrondissement Town Hall under the supervision of an oenologist. Importantly, the proceeds from Clos Montmartre wine sales are channelled into social and charitable initiatives within the arrondissement. Five days of wine, food and music The 2026 programme moves between music, gastronomy, community events and the rituals of the harvest. Wednesday, 7 October opens the festival with a Kids' Dance Party, a concert for residents of Bretonneau Hospital and an official opening evening at the 18th arrondissement Town Hall featuring a participatory choir and DJ set. On Thursday, 8 October, more than 1,200 local schoolchildren will take part in the Children's Grand Choir at Square Louise-Michel. The evening continues with a 5 km Night Run through the arrondissement. The gastronomic heart of the festival arrives with the Parcours du Goût, running from 9 to 11 October around Sacré-Cœur. Producers, winemakers and food artisans from across France will gather for a tasting trail showcasing regional specialities alongside wines. Saturday, 10 October, brings one of the festival’s most traditional moments: the Ban des Vendanges, the ceremonial proclamation of the harvest at Clos Montmartre. It is followed by the Grand Parade, with brass bands, performance groups and neighbourhood floats winding through the streets of Montmartre. The festival closes on Sunday, 11 October with the tongue-in-cheek Ceremony of Marriage Proposals That Never Happened at Place des Abbesses, followed by an open-air Closing Ball. Wine with a social purpose Community and charity remain central to the festival. Along the Parcours du Goût, visitors can support two social initiatives through simple acts. At five collection points, returning the festival’s reusable screen-printed tasting glass triggers a donation equivalent to the cost of a meal to Les Restos du Cœur. Meanwhile, Tout le monde contre le cancer will bring its Toques en Truck food truck to Sacré-Cœur, serving Aveyron specialities while raising funds for the association’s hospital visits supporting people with cancer and their families. For five days, the Fête des Vendanges de Montmartre turns one of Paris’s most recognisable neighbourhoods into a celebration where wine is not simply something to taste, but part of a much larger story of place, community, culture and giving back.
